ABOUT WABC CERTIFIED LEADER-AS-COACH (CLAC)

WABC Certified Leader-as-Coach (CLAC) is a highly respected global credential designed for leaders-as-coaches at certified-level.

Those pursuing CLAC are professionals within a leadership role who either have had little or no previous experience with coaching, or who already have some leader-as-coach coaching experience that they now wish to consolidate fully with best practice.

Leaders-as-coaches at this level are expected to apply coaching skills, with appropriate recognition of the imbalance of power held by them and individual team members, with the goal of supporting the development, empowerment and accountability of others and improving performance in the delivery of strategic business and organizational goals and objectives.

PURPOSE OF CREDENTIAL

CLAC:

  • Sets global standards for leaders-as-coaches at certified-level, and clearly identifies these standards for organizations adopting leader-as-coach coaching.
  • Provides an independent, robust, transparent assessment process that recognizes appropriate education for leaders-as-coaches at this level.
  • Contributes to the definition, development and self-regulation of leader-as-coach coaching, a subspecialty of the business coaching profession.
TYPE OF CREDENTIAL

CLAC is an independent, evidence-based credential that carries re-certification requirements (no prerequisite credential required*). 

*NOTE: Each WABC credential is intended to be a stand-alone credential, which enables you to choose the credential that is right for your professional role, previous coaching experience, skill level, ambition, goals and client and employer needs at any point in your career. Our non-linear approach is purposefully designed to offer flexible and responsive learning options and credentials.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES

You are an ideal candidate for CLAC if:

  • You are a leader at any level, or
  • You are a manager at any level, or
  • You are a supervisor at any level.

All candidates are seeking to develop effective coaching techniques for use in developing, leading, managing or supervising others as part of their role within an organization.

HOW TO EARN CLAC

To earn CLAC, you must meet these requirements:

  • Successfully complete a WABC Accredited (Level 2 – Leader-as-Coach)® Program (Program completion includes passing a written and performance related assessment), and
  • Meet the final administrative needs (e.g., agree to these standards, purchase your CLAC Promo Package) by the required deadline.

HOW TO MAINTAIN CLAC

As a CLAC, you must:

  • Re-certify your CLAC: Declare your continuing engagement in leader-as-coach coaching by renewing your CLAC Promo Package every year.

CLAC can be revoked under certain circumstances. Examples include not meeting the re-certification requirements or being cited for a legal or ethical violation. If your CLAC credential is revoked, you will no longer be able to use the credential and you must remove all references to it, including badges, from marketing, promotional and other materials in your control (e.g., your website, résumé, signature block, LinkedIn).
