WABC Accredited
(Level 2 – CBC)®

WABC Accredited signifies that your offering is among the world’s most elite and rigorous business coaching training programs.

Our second level of program accreditation is for programs that develop advanced business coaches with specialized business coaching skills enabling them to support a wide range of business-oriented and organizational goals and objectives.

Overview

WABC Accredited
(Level 2 – CBC)®

The WABC Accredited global mark is a program accreditation distinction that ensures you’re offering the most comprehensive and robust business coaching training available in the world.

Level 2 programs develop advanced business coaches who will represent many professional roles (e.g., leader, manager, internal or external business coach, external consultant). Such programs focus on consolidating technical skills and also encouraging the development of a sound theoretical underpinning to enable their participants to provide a full professional scope of practice and to work to more diverse agendas.

When you successfully complete the WABC program accreditation process, your program receives the prestigious WABC Accredited (Level 2 – CBC) mark.

Your participation in our rigorous program accreditation process engages you in a continuous lifecycle—from initial accreditation to annual monitoring to re-accreditation every five years to ensure you deliver the highest, most relevant training to business coaches today and tomorrow.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATE PROGRAMS

Level 2 is for Developing Advanced Business Coaches

Level 2 programs develop advanced business coaches and must be delivered at a professional level of engagement and must meet our professional standards and rigorous assessment process.

WABC Accredited is only available to training programs that offer business coaching as the main focus of their curriculum. This means over 75% of the learning hours within the program must be focused on the practice, theory and/or research of business coaching.

We welcome applications from:

  • External programs that operate an open recruitment policy, welcoming all appropriately experienced participants, or
  • Internal programs where participants are drawn only from within a specific organization.

Even if your program is brand new, or requires significant changes to meet WABC’s standards, you may still be eligible to register in our WABC program accreditation process.

Every applicant program must:

  • Aspire to standards and aspirations for excellence as exemplified in all of WABC’s evidence-based standards, and
  • Meet the assessment criteria specified by WABC.

WABC PROGRAM ACCREDITATION PROCESS

The Route to Earning WABC Accredited
Equips Your Program for Success

Expect a Value-Added, Richly Supported Program Accreditation Experience

With WABC, program providers can expect a program accreditation process unlike any other in the coaching industry.

In fact, the path to earn the WABC Accredited mark is an important professional and business developmental opportunity in its own right. By design, you will move through our process of progressive stages and steps that enable you to showcase your program offering for evaluation.

Along the way, we provide personalized advisory support and feedback specially tailored for you with the specific purpose of helping you think more critically, creatively and strategically about your program offer, and how to align with WABC’s global evidence-based standards to offer best-in-class training.

We Adapt to Match Your Approach

As you progress through the WABC program accreditation process, the program provider’s route to achieving WABC’s standards and principles is not prescribed. We welcome applications from providers who offer courses and programs that embrace a wide range of educational learning and assessment methods.

Our assessment uses equivalence to determine if programs deliver appropriate, consistent outcomes, no matter their approach.

The broader business coaching community benefits from your innovation too—as a provider of a WABC Accredited program, you’re helping to build the global body of knowledge about business coaching as an evolving, impactful practice.

Our Robust Process Rewards Excellence

We Enhance Transparency and Confidence in Business Coaching

Our process enhances the confidence of all invested in our industry—business coaches, clients, training providers or members of the public—by providing transparent scrutiny of programs against robust, reliable academic and professional principles and standards.

WABC Accredited programs intentionally offer a blend of professional practice and theoretical elements at every level of the program, although there is proportionally less focus on professional skills development in our higher levels of program accreditation.

Our process allows providers to identify and describe their educational philosophy, and theoretical and professional program underpinnings to demonstrate how they achieve robust and high-quality outcomes for participants and clients alike.

When you engage with a program bearing the WABC Accredited mark, you can be assured that the training delivers the practical skills and outcomes that align with research-based best practice in both business coaching and training alike.

Providing An Independent Process is Paramount

The value of the WABC Accredited mark is not just born from the standards that inform it, but also from the evaluative processes that lead to it.

At WABC, we take very seriously the need to accomplish two goals for the benefit of all stakeholders:

  1. To ensure that the WABC standards are best in class and consistently upheld and safeguarded, and
  2. To provide an independent and transparent program accreditation process.

WABC strikes the right balance towards realizing those two distinct goals through the creation of WABC standing committees—the WABC Program Accreditation Team, and three supporting WABC Accredited Decision Boards: WABC Accredited Assessment Board, WABC Accredited Award Board and WABC Accredited Appeal Board.

The team and boards are comprised of highly skilled experts who are passionate about business coaching and serving our community. They are accountable to strictly uphold WABC’s global evidence-based standards and accreditation best practice.

The purpose of all standing committees is to:

  • Provide an independent, robust, transparent program accreditation process that recognizes excellence in business coaching training, and
  • Promote the highest global standards for business coaching training programs.

Ultimately, WABC maintains oversight of its standards and safeguards the program accreditation process, while simultaneously enabling experts to independently carry out program accreditation related activities. Taken altogether, this thoughtfully considered and balanced-approach raises the quality, credibility and profile of business coaching worldwide to the benefit of all stakeholders.

Every Step is Rooted in Best Practice

WABC continuously aligns with program accreditation best practice in established professional industries around the world, so we can continue to optimize our program accreditation process informed by the most relevant, leading practices offered in the market today.

WABC’s proprietary accreditation process includes these key hallmarks of high-quality program accreditation processes:

  • Self-assessment by the provider
  • External review and assessment by independent peers with subject-matter expertise
  • Decision-making by the accrediting institution
  • Monitoring and review of the accredited program
  • Public disclosure and notification by both the accrediting institution and the provider
  • Comprehensive annual review by the accrediting institution to ensure that it stays relevant and continues to set the highest global standards for business coach training providers.

Being the Best Means Renewing Relevance
& Status in Our Marketplace

Continual Improvement

Business coaching is by nature a supportive, disruptive and progressive intervention that must stay current and relevant to real-world business and organizational needs.

WABC’s global standards, the WABC program accreditation process and programs bearing the WABC Accredited mark must adapt to the changing market demands and growing body of knowledge on effective business coaching.

Many program accreditation processes in the marketplace today are poorly designed and deeply flawed—often a mere paper exercise without sufficient, or any, independent scrutiny, subject matter expertise, and ongoing recalibration to evidence-based best practice. Many other accreditations may simply represent a single, limited snapshot in time.

The WABC program accreditation process is rigorous but not onerous. Among the key hallmarks of WABC’s high-quality program accreditation process is that both the provider and WABC undergo continuous review and improvement cycles.

WABC’s Improvement Lifecycle

The WABC program accreditation process undergoes annual and three- to five-year reviews to ensure that it remains relevant and continues to set the highest global standards for business coaching training programs.

Our care in reviewing our process at varied intervals ensures that providers can remain confident their accreditation retains its currency and status in our rapidly developing market.

Provider’s Improvement Lifecycle

All WABC Accredited programs engage in a continuous five-year process lifecycle to ensure they meet our standards of excellence—from initial accreditation through annual monitoring to re-accreditation.

This continuous lifecycle ensures the providers’ programs remain relevant in the market and continue to meet our exacting global standards for business coach training programs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Learn Even More

What is accreditation?

Accreditation is a voluntary process by which a nongovernmental body publicly recognizes an institution or program that has successfully met predetermined qualifications through initial and follow-up evaluations.

What kind of accreditation does WABC do?

WABC offers program accreditation that recognizes four levels of business coaching programs. WABC does not offer institutional accreditation.

What is unique about a program accreditation qualification?

It is the most rigorous level of qualification available to programs by an external accreditor. Program accreditation processes that follow industry best practice ensure their accredited programs require validation, carry re-accreditation requirements and are subject to revocation. WABC Accredited adheres to these best practices.

Who accredits the accreditation bodies?

In the world today, no appropriate oversight body exists to accredit or oversee professional bodies engaged in the accreditation of professional training and education that are outside government-regulated higher education institutions.

While opinions abound as to the merits of such oversight regulators, their chief contributions include providing guidelines and principles around best practice to combat accreditation mills, substandard or no academic and quality assurance, and other fraudulent market activity.

With this in mind, WABC continuously monitors leading accreditation bodies in various established professional fields around the world to ensure its own practices are aligned with the very best and relevant in the marketplace today.

My program already has various program accreditations. Is my program still eligible for your process?

WABC program accreditation focuses solely on programs dedicated to developing professional business coaches, not for programs that offer coaching as one part of the curriculum. This focus makes it different from accreditations offered by other bodies.

Your program may still be eligible for WABC accreditation if it focuses on training business coaching practices.

I am creating a new program that I would like to get accredited by WABC. When is the best time to register in your program accreditation process?

The best time to register in our program accreditation process is as early as possible when creating your new program.

If your program is eligible for our process, working with WABC while you’re planning or developing your program enables you to leverage WABC’s rich program accreditation resources to guide your program development.

Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  • WABC’s program accreditation process is an evaluative process. This means you are responsible for developing your own program, and WABC is responsible for assessing your program to ensure it is consistent, substantively and procedurally, with the standards that WABC has identified as required for a training program providing business coach development at the specified level.
  • If you need assistance creating your new program, WABC offers a range of consulting and business services to identify opportunities and improve coaching within organizations. WABC Business Services are independent of our program accreditation process and carry separate fees. Please contact WABC to learn more.
  • You will be required to run your new program with a small cohort at least one time before you can complete the WABC program accreditation process.
What is the timeline for completing the initial program accreditation process?

WABC’s initial program accreditation process has been designed so you can create your own timeline based on your particular needs.

Factors influencing your timeline may include:

  • If you have an existing program
  • If you are creating a new program
  • If you need to engage a consultant to assist your program development (e.g. improving your existing program or building a new one)
  • If you have a specific market-driven need to complete the process within a certain period of time

Given WABC’s considered experience in offering this service, we offer program providers a generous amount of time to complete the initial process based on the level of program accreditation they are seeking.

  • WABC Accredited (Level 1 – RCC) have up to 12 months to complete the initial process.
  • WABC Accredited (Level 2 – CBC) have up to 12 months to complete the initial process.
  • WABC Accredited (Level 3 – CMBC) have up to 28 months to complete the initial process. This additional time is required because the program must offer a self-directed research element, and is also suitable for fully accredited university or college graduate level programs.
  • WABC Accredited (Level 4 – ChBC) have up to 12 months to complete the initial process.

Your own timeline depends on your needs. For example, if you already have an existing program that does not require significant adjustments to meet our standards and fully engage in our process, you can expect to complete the initial process in 2–3 months.

Our years of experience have shown us that careful and considered planning is essential. Accordingly, during the first stage in our process, you will create your personalized timeline, including target dates, to ensure a positive accreditation process experience.

My program is not taught in English. Can it still be assessed?

Yes, although you must plan to provide all your reporting requirements and an ongoing working relationship with WABC in English, as WABC and all program accreditation team members operate using English.

If you don’t speak English, please plan accordingly. You must have one member of your team who has an English language qualification and can easily communicate with your adviser in English. Your submission must also be in English.

Do you have a WABC Accredited® logo that I can use?

Your program accreditation has specific guidance on how to list your program, including a logo and wording that you are required to use on all related materials. Please log in to your dashboard for further guidance.

What do my participants have to do to receive their own individual WABC credential?

For your graduates to receive their credential, they must:

  • Pass a screening interview with a WABC Accredited program instructor for their specified credential level,
  • Meet minimum WABC membership requirements for their specified credential level,
  • Be a current WABC member in good standing, and
  • Successfully complete a WABC Accredited program for their specified credential level.

There is a specific time period within which your graduates must join WABC to receive their credential. The time period depends on the level of your program’s accreditation.

Who conducts the program participants’ assessment?

WABC does not require WABC-conducted examinations for program graduates to gain their own credentials. We intentionally set up the program accreditation requirements so that WABC Accredited program providers must provide the final assessment.

This approach provides an appropriate level of independence between the program providers and WABC, so that WABC has no undue influence on graduate assessment decisions.

Our rigorous program accreditation process ensures that the provider’s assessment is appropriate, and our annual monitoring safeguards the provider’s training provision over the accreditation lifecycle.

Once my program achieves accreditation by WABC, when are my participants eligible to earn their own individual WABC credential?

Once your program successfully passes the initial accreditation process, the independent Assessment Event Report will include the date from which participants graduating from your program are eligible to earn their individual credential at the appropriate level.

Level 1 programs develop practitioner business coaches. Such programs focus on the practical elements of business coaching for participants with limited previous experience in formal focused coaching skills training, or with some experience that they wish to consolidate fully with best practice. When you successfully complete the WABC program accreditation process, your program receives the prestigious WABC Accredited (Level 1 – RCC) mark.
Level 2 programs develop the full professional scope of advanced business coaches who will represent many professional roles (e.g., leader, manager, internal or external business coach, external consultant). Such programs will consolidate technical skills but also encourage the development of a sound theoretical underpinning to practice and the ability to work to more diverse agendas.

When you successfully complete the WABC program accreditation process, your program receives the prestigious WABC Accredited (Level 2 – CBC) mark.
Level 3 programs develop master coaches who will represent many professional roles (e.g., leader, manager, internal or external business coach, external consultant). Such programs fully explore current approaches, methodologies and theories underpinning the work of business coaches, drawing on the literature from business coaching as well as related disciplines. Critical engagement with research and the design of self directed inquiry is also a hallmark of this level.

When you successfully complete the WABC program accreditation process, your program receives the prestigious WABC Accredited (Level 3 – CMBC) mark.
Level 4 programs explore and consolidate the development of elite business coaches who will represent many professional roles (e.g., leader, manager, internal or external business coach, external consultant).
